Dwayne Westermann of College Lutheran Church in Salem, Virginia, leads what he calls Lutheran Safaris to Tanzania. Speaking of his first trip to Africa Pastor Westermann says, “Frankly, I was just pretty well burned out and thinking seriously about leaving the ministry altogether. When I arrived in Moshi, Tanzania, the first thing that happened was I was told I would be preaching to 3,000 people. It was just an incredible experience. Everywhere I went I was greeted with singing by people who had been waiting hours just to say, in English, “Welcome Pastor Westermann. The Holy Spirit is so alive among people who have so little. Everyone who goes on our “safaris” comes back changed and renewed in faith.
