Program: Inside Chinese Prisons
John Kamm, businessman-human rights
strategist, developed an innovative approach to free Chinese prisoners.
As executive director of The Dui Hua Foundation, a San Francisco-based
human rights organization engaged in an unofficial dialogue on political
prisoners and related issues with the Chinese government. He is a former
president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and was Far
East regional vice president of Occidental Chemical Corporation. For his
work in the area of corporate responsibility, Mr. Kamm was awarded the
Best Global Practices Award by the Commerce Department in June 1997. He
was given the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award by President George
W. Bush in December 2001. Mr. Kamm directs the Project in Human Rights
Diplomacy at Stanford University.
