Mary Oyer
Program: Singing
As A Way of Life
Mary Oyer is Professor Emerita of Music at
Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana, and a major contributor to the last two
Mennonite hymnals. Mary Oyer is a cellist, church musician, hymnody
scholar, hymnal editor, and enlivener of congregational song. More than
40 years a professor at Goshen College, Mary studied African musical
traditions in 22 countries on a series of Fulbright grants. She has
been a visiting professor at both Kenyatta University in Kenya, and at
Tainan Theological Seminary in Taiwan.
